Wow where has the time flown? We have been very busy in our grade 2 class this past month.  In science we are learning about Small, Crawling and Flying Creatures.  We have read about and studied bees, spiders and last week bats.  Next will we move onto ants.  Students have been very engaged in learning about this insects, arachnids and mammals(not birds). In Reading, we are working on finding the Just right books to read when it is read to self time.  Students have the books for 2-3 days then trade in for new ones.  Their other books are then quarantined for 3 days before being put back into circulation. In Writing we are working on using adjectives or juicy words, starting our sentences with a sound, question or place to make our writing more interesting to the reader. Have a good week. Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!  We had a great week of learning in Grade 2.  We finished our first novel study, The Year of Billy Miller.  Ask your child what their favourite part was of the book.  Our class learned about bees and the different jobs a bee has within the colony.  Ask what the "waggle" dance is! On Thursday we learned about apples and the different varieties, did you know there are over 4,000 different kinds?  Students then got the opportunity to work with a partner to make an Apple Trapper out of paper and masking tape.  Some inventions worked great, others needed some tweaking and others just needed more time to get it to work.  I am proud of their reflections and team work.  Everyone was able to express their needs at wanting a turn and sharing their ideas.   Have a great weekend.
